Royal Jelly

Royal Jelly has been a staple in traditional medicine for centuries. Are you aware of its numerous health benefits? If not, here are eight benefits of Royal Jelly to consider. Before incorporating it into your diet or beauty routine, let's explore its advantages.

What is Royal Jelly?

Royal Jelly is a milky secretion produced by honey bees, fed to their developing larvae. It is crucial for a larva to mature into a queen bee. Beekeepers harvest Royal Jelly from honey bee colonies, similar to honey production. It's wealthy in carbs, protein, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals. The ancient Greeks described it as part of the gods' nectar, and Aristotle recommended it for his students' daily breakfast. It was also believed to be one of Cleopatra's beauty secrets and a key to longevity and healing in ancient dynasties. The composition of Royal Jelly varies based on geographic location, season, and local flora. Pollen grains from nearby plants can become embedded in Royal Jelly, adding trace plant proteins. The most studied active ingredient is 10-Hydroxy-2-decenoic acid (10-HDA), known for its potent antibacterial properties. Additionally, Royal Jelly contains peptides with antibacterial characteristics and 185 physiologically active components, including hormones like testosterone, progesterone, prolactin, and estradiol. Flavonoids, antioxidant compounds found in plants, also contribute to its health benefits.

Health Benefits of Royal Jelly

  1. Improves Red Blood Cell Count: A 2012 study in the journal Advanced Biomedical Research found that healthy volunteers aged 42 to 83 who consumed 3000 mg of Royal Jelly daily for six months had a higher red blood cell count compared to those given a placebo.
  2. Lowers Blood Pressure: Proteins in Royal Jelly may help lower blood pressure by relaxing smooth muscle cells in veins and arteries. Animal studies have shown significant blood pressure reductions with Royal Jelly supplements, though more research is needed to fully understand this relationship.
  3. Strong Antioxidant: Royal Jelly's antioxidant properties may support brain health. Studies have shown that stress-induced mice given Royal Jelly had lower stress hormone levels and a stronger central nervous system. Postmenopausal rats given Royal Jelly exhibited better memory and fewer depression symptoms. Another study found that rats given Royal Jelly could better remove brain deposits linked to Alzheimer's disease. However, more human studies are required.
  4. Diabetes Management: Royal Jelly has insulin-like properties that can help lower blood glucose levels. Clinical trials have shown that Royal Jelly reduces blood sugar levels, boosts insulin, and decreases insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes. It may also aid in weight management for diabetics.
  5. Treats Dry Eye: Royal Jelly may increase tear secretion and treat chronic dry eyes. Studies have shown improvements in dry eye symptoms with oral Royal Jelly, suggesting it could be a low-risk treatment option.
  6. Anti-Aging Effects: Royal Jelly may slow the aging process. Studies have found that rats given Royal Jelly lived longer and had better cognitive abilities. Topical products containing Royal Jelly can help maintain youthful skin by enhancing collagen production and preventing UV damage.
  7. Supports Immune System: Royal Jelly can boost the body's natural immune response to germs and viruses. Its antibacterial properties help prevent infections and support immune function.
  8. Reduces Cancer Treatment Side Effects: Royal Jelly may alleviate some side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments, such as heart failure, inflammation, and gastrointestinal disorders. Studies have shown that Royal Jelly can reduce chemotherapy-induced cardiac damage and prevent mucositis, a painful side effect of cancer treatment.
